Mental Health Therapist Job Description

We are seeking a qualified and empathetic Mental Health Therapist to provide evidence-based therapeutic support to clients experiencing mental health challenges. You will conduct assessments, develop treatment plans, deliver individual and/or group therapy, and collaborate with a wider clinical team. You are trauma-informed, culturally humble, and deeply committed to client wellbeing.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments and risk evaluations for new clients
• Develop individualized, evidence-based treatment plans with clear goals and objectives
• Deliver individual, couples, family, or group therapy using evidence-based modalities
• Monitor client progress and adjust treatment approaches as clinically indicated
• Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation in compliance with regulatory requirements
• Collaborate with psychiatrists, case managers, and other providers for integrated care
• Respond to crisis situations and implement appropriate safety planning
• Participate in clinical supervision, team meetings, and continuing professional development

Requirements

• Master's degree in counselling, social work, psychology, or related field
• Current clinical licensure in relevant jurisdiction (LCSW, LPC, LMFT, or equivalent)
• 2+ years of post-licensure clinical therapy experience
• Proficiency in evidence-based treatment modalities (CBT, DBT, ACT, or trauma-focused approaches)
• Strong risk assessment skills and crisis intervention experience
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Commitment to cultural humility and trauma-informed practice

Nice to Have

• Specialty experience (substance use, trauma, eating disorders, perinatal mental health)
• Experience with telehealth therapy delivery
• Bilingual or multilingual skills
• EMDR or somatic therapy training
